Getting out of her “Scrubs” and into high fashion for her new starring role on Lifetime Television’s “Maneater” was just what Sarah Chalke needed to find the designer for her dress for her upcoming wedding. Sarah has been engaged to entertainment lawyer and fellow Canadian Jamie Afifi since December 2006, when Jamie popped the question while the couple was on vacation in Hawaii, but the couple has yet to marry. That may be changing soon, as Sarah reveals to ET that when she tried on a Monique Lhuillier wedding gown for her role as Clarissa, she found the perfect dress. “I loved the one I got to wear so much that I asked the costumer, ‘What do you think if I get married in this one, and we find a different one for the movie?’” Sarah tells ET. Those who have read the eponymous book by Gigi Levangie Grazer know that Clarissa begins planning her wedding to Aaron (Philip Winchester) before she even meets him — and then she plots with her BFFs to make it happen! “Where the similarities between Clarissa and I end is that we’re both planning a wedding, but I met my fiancé through friends on a ski trip, and she stalked hers and picked him out and planned a wedding before she even met him,” Sarah explains. “I hadn’t tried on wedding dresses yet, so it was actually really fun to do that for the part, and I got to try on a ton of these beautiful Monique Lhuillier wedding dresses.” “Maneater” is the second book by Grazer that Lifetime Television has turned into a mini-series. The first, “Starter Wife,” went to series. So is Sarah up for that if lighting should strike twice? “‘Scrubs’ did get renewed for season nine,” she points out. “I don’t know yet what [my involvement] will be, but regardless, I’m so glad that it got picked up.” As for a return to “How I Met Your Mother,” she tells ET, “I actually don’t know the answer to that. “It was just supposed to be for a few days, and then it just kind of evolved into more. The creators of “How I Met Your Mother, ” Craig and Carter and then Bill, the creator of “Scrubs,” were just really generous to let me go back and forth for a little, which was very fun, but I didn’t sleep for about five weeks. I guess we’ll have to see what ends up happening with “Maneater.” Part one of “Maneater” premieres on Saturday, May 30, followed by part two on Sunday, May 31, both at 9 p.m. on Lifetime Television. Playing a blushing bride on TV has wrecked SCRUBS star SARAH CHALKE’s real-life wedding plans because she can’t wear the same dream dress twice. The actress found the perfect gown while planning a wedding for her new TV movie Maneater – and then realised she’d have to make a second choice for her own nuptials later this year (09). “We did get to borrow these gorgeous Monique Lhuillier wedding dresses from this rack of 20 dresses to try on. I fell so madly in love with this one dress and I was like, ‘This is the one. This is the perfect dress, it’ll be so great.’ “Then they altered it and I thought, ‘Crap, this is actually the dress I want to wear for my real wedding and I can’t actually wear it for both.” But at least Chalke has found her dress designer in Lhuillier for when she exchanges vows with lawyer Jamie Afifi. The actress insists there’s no set date yet but the big day will be “very romantic”. From Contact Music

If “Sex and the City” is your kind of guilty pleasure, you’ll not only pounce on new Lifetime miniseries “Maneater” but relish every morsel. As with “City,” this one started with a book: “Maneater” by best-selling author Gigi Levangie Grazer, who also gave us “The Starter Wife.” At its core is a plan by the female lead, Clarissa Alpert, to snag a handsome, up-and-coming Hollywood screenwriter/producer. Our heroine is so fun to watch, however, that you’ll find yourself not really minding how dishonest and manipulative she appears to be. Besides, there’s more to this would-be trophy wife than we see initially. Before the many twists of the plot wind to a close, we discover a different Clarissa, one with heart and values. More good news: Clarissa is played with panache by Sarah Chalke, one of TV’s most appealing actresses. Chalke not only has range, but as she’s exhibited on “Scrubs,” she’s as adept a physical comedienne as you’ll find on either the small or big screen today. Best news? Her tour de force in “Maneater” may not end Sunday. If the mini does well, there’s talk Lifetime may turn it into a series just as USA Network did with miniseries “The Starter Wife” starring Debra Messing. “I think the setup on ‘Maneater’ kind of lends itself to that because you’ve got the close group of girlfriends like ‘Sex and the City,’ ” Chalke said in a teleconference call. She says she loved playing Clarissa’s transition from “the gold digger with the world by the tail” to the woman who watches this world she’s built begin to fall apart. One way they’re alike, she added, is they’re both planning a wedding. However, they go about it differently. Clarissa does everything “in the wrong order,” Chalke said. She plans the wedding, even books the hotel, before she even gets to know the groom. In real life, Chalke has been engaged to fellow Canadian and entertainment lawyer Jamie Afifi for more than two years; they plan to marry this year. It was kind of a thrilling rehearsal, she said, to wear a fabulous wedding dress — from Monique Lhuillier — in the movie. In fact, the clothes in general were a nice change for Chalke given her character on “Scrubs” is in, well, scrubs much of the time. “Fashion was such a fun part of it,” she said, singling out the stunning purple dress from Zak Posen that her character wears to meet her intended husband. Chalke also got a kick out of a scene in which she sings and dances with her mom — considering “I got kicked out of the choir in Grade 5.” The actress who plays her mom? Maria Conchita Alonso, a surprising choice considering how fair Chalke is. “We went back and forth on that. Should it be explained? It was decided it wasn’t necessary,” she said. Clarissa’s dad is played by Gregory Harrison, and “lots of people have parents of mixed heritage,” she said. Though Chalke seems eager to take this role to series, she’s also happy that “Scrubs” was renewed for a ninth season on ABC. She’s committed to six episodes. As for how her character, Dr. Elliot Reid, will fit in, Chalke indicated that was still up in the air. “I actually don’t know yet what I’m going to do,” she said. “But I’m excited it’s back.” From My San Antonio
